A person who spiked candy with tranquilliser and gave them to minors at a summer camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two young males both nine and ten years old.

The accused was detained after eight youngsters and a grown-up fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The elderly man, from that region, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, detailed the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer camp which he managed.

Ruben played a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the defendant had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the following morning.

She said the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.

The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about what was going on, justifiably.

"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."

The legal counsel stated items including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his family member notified the law enforcement about his worries.

She said Ruben continued to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Authorities" had not responded by that point," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.

Mrs Prior explained the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson notified the authorities a second time.

She said the defendant then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five youngsters.
